What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone therapy is a treatment that can address a variety of health concerns by administering medical-grade ozone in its gaseous form to the body. We provide ozone therapy at our Connecticut Shoreline practice by mixing ozone gas with your own blood for multiple forms of IV ozone therapy, including EBOO therapy, high dose ozone therapy, and major autohemotherapy.
Ozone, or O3, is a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms. When ozone is introduced to your body it can help increase oxygen delivery to your blood which may boost immune function and help control oxidative stress. The process begins with IV insertion, pulling your blood through a closed sterile system, injecting with medial grade ozone, and then
transfusing it back into circulation, increasing the levels of oxygen in tissues. When medical ozone is introduced into the system, IV ozone therapy can help the body produce more ATP, or cellular energy which is a requirement for optimal cellular function. Regular treatment with ozone therapy in CT may offer therapeutic properties.
Though ozone therapy is a non-FDA approved therapy, it has been used for decades by practitioners specializing in integrative medicine, longevity medicine, and functional medicine. There is evidence that use of ozone therapy for Lyme disease, chronic inflammation, chronic fatigue, viral diseases, infections, and more may be beneficial.
Types of Ozone Therapy We Offer
Our treatment options for ozone therapy in Connecticut include three reputable methodologies:
major autohemotherapy, high dose ozone therapy, and EBOO therapy. While these are all forms of ozone blood treatment, they work differently and can offer unique benefits.
Major Autohemotherapy (MAH)
For
major autohemotherapy treatment
at our ozone therapy clinic in CT, we draw a small amount of your blood, mix it with medical grade ozone, and then infuse it back into the body via the same vein. It is a simple, fairly quick treatment—sessions are typically no longer than 30 to 45 minutes—designed to help support cellular health. This classic form of IV ozone therapy is the most mild. This treatment is only indicated for clients that have severe inflammation or illness before advancing to the other ozone therapies.
High-Dose Ozone Therapy
High-dose ozone therapy
is considered a more advanced version of major autohemotherapy. This ozone blood treatment is automated by a machine rather than being manually performed by one of our licensed medical providers, pumping your blood out of the body and infusing it with ozone before reinfusing it into your body. During one session of high-dose ozone therapy, which typically takes about an hour, ozonated blood is reinfused through ultraviolet light. This can help with chronic infection and inflammation. High-dose ozone therapy at our ozone therapy clinic in Connecticut can be customized to your desired volume of treatment, varying from 330mL, 430mL, or 530mL of ozone blood treatment depending on our provider’s recommendation to address your unique needs and concerns.
EBOO (Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation & Ozonation)
EBOO therapy, or extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation, is our most technologically advanced and cutting-edge methodology for ozone therapy at our Connecticut Shoreline clinic. It is similar to a dialysis treatment in that it uses two IVs to create a continuous circuit: From one vein, blood is drawn and passed through an ozone filter, maximizing the purification benefits of the treatment by neutralizing and removing cellular and bacterial debris while adding ozone into the blood. The blood then moves through UV light to a second IV that takes this ozonated blood and reintroduces it back into the body.
EBOO ozone therapy is the most time-consuming form of treatment at our ozone therapy clinic in Madison, CT due to its complex nature. Treatment typically takes about one to two hours. However, it can be viewed as a particularly effective ozone therapy for chronic inflammation, chronic fatigue, and chronic illness like Lyme disease, as well as a useful ozone therapy for viral diseases, respiratory disorders, and pathogenic infections.
How Ozone Therapy Works in the Body
Medical ozone therapy has been used for over 150 years to help treat infections, wounds, inflammation, and disease. When administered in precise therapeutic doses, IV ozone therapy may work to activate the immune system, stimulate oxygen metabolism, and deactivate bacteria, viruses, fungi, and yeasts as well as downregulate systemic inflammation.
While many refer to ozone IV therapy as a highly effective detox solution, in actuality, ozone therapy is promoting your body's own ability to detox. Though you can, in fact, see visible materials filtered from the blood during EBOO therapy, these are frequently lipids, cellular debris, and other waste, rather than nebulous “toxins,” which your kidneys are designed to filter out. One should be wary of EBOO treatment in CT that claims to detox your body of heavy metals rather than focusing on clear, specific health benefits.

What To Expect During Treatment
While the benefits of all forms of IV ozone therapy are comparable, the treatments themselves can vary depending on the methodology used.
EBOO Ozone Therapy Session at LIVation
- When beginning EBOO treatment at our Connecticut Shoreline practice, you’ll start your appointment with an intake, confirming your medical and family history, then you’ll get comfortable as your provider places your two IVs, typically one in each arm.
- As the most time-consuming form of IV ozone therapy we offer, you should be prepared to spend one to two hours at LIVation for EBOO therapy. However, you’ll be able to read, listen to music, or watch something on your tablet during your session to help pass the time (napping works, too!).
- If you’re curious to know what EBOO therapy feels like, most patients report total comfort, with no noticeable sensations. Some report a mild warmth or tingling at the IV site as their ozonated blood is returned to their body, while others may feel hungry or thirsty due to slightly lowered blood sugar.
- Once your session is done, you can go about your day, being sure to drink plenty of water and electrolytes as well as get rest, limiting yourself to gentle, mild exercise such as walking or yoga for the next 24 hours.
High-Dose Ozone Therapy Session at LIVation
- You’ll begin your appointment for high-dose ozone therapy at our Madison, CT practice with our standard medical intake, after which your provider will place your IV.
- As our high-dose ozone therapy device works to draw your blood, infuse it with medical ozone, and return it to your body, you’ll be sitting in the treatment area of our ozone therapy clinic for about an hour. You’ll be able to relax comfortably and read a magazine, play games on your phone, or catch up on emails during your session.
- Other than possible mild discomfort upon insertion of the needle for your IV, you likely won’t feel much during your high-dose ozone therapy appointment. You may notice a tingling or warmth as the ozone enters your body; most patients find IV ozone therapy at our CT practice very comfortable.
- After treatment, you can go home and continue to relax or partake in some mild exercise. Just be sure to drink plenty of water (ideally enriched with electrolytes) to further support your body’s recovery.
Major Autohemotherapy Session at LIVation
- After intake for your major autohemotherapy appointment, your LIVation medical provider will insert the needle for your IV and draw a small amount of your blood, manually mix it with medical ozone, then infuse your ozonated blood into your body.
- The process for major autohemotherapy at our Madison, CT clinic typically takes no longer than 45 minutes, and our patients tend to find the experience to be relaxing and comfortable.
- You can resume regular activities after your IV ozone therapy appointment; remember to stay hydrated and relaxed in the 24 hours or so post-procedure.
